Remember the Past, Get Ready for the Future
Don’t wait around to get what you need in an emergency! Prepare ahead of time! It’s not that hard. First, have a ready kit for whatever the emergency might be. Second, have a plan to put into action when disaster is likely to happen. Third, be prepared by remembering the past and getting ready for the future.
In case disaster strikes, have what’s most likely going to be needed. A ready kit is very important to have. Your ready kit is very important to have. Your ready kit probably needs to include water, food, clothing, safety supplies, maybe medicine, a couple of flashlights, extra batteries, and a weather radio. Weather radios are great for current updates about the weather. A ready kit is something that we hope to never use, but will be happy we created if bad things come our way.
Have a family emergency plan! It’s a good idea to have a plan for things like floods, tornados, fires, or any other emergency. If there’s a tornado, have somewhere that you can take shelter. A room with no windows and a door that shuts. What if there’s a chance of flood like weather? Don’t worry. You should find a high surface outside and get on it. A car or an upper level in a building would also work well, until rescue help comes. If there’s a fire, get out of the house quickly and safely. Try to help other family members and even pets, if possible. Have at least one fire extinguisher in the house. If you happen to be upstairs during a fire, have an escape route such as a rope for going out a window. Also, incase of an emergency, have a place to meet up with your family like a hill or maybe a tree.
When bad things happen around us, it is sometimes scary. If we will take the time to think about unfortunate events that we’ve heard of on the news, or from people around us, it will help us to be better prepared. Taking time to notice how others handled these events will give us a better understanding of what we should do when disaster strikes.
No one ever wants to be in a disaster situation. However, we can always handle any situation better if we take the time to do the things that we know can make a difference.
